What Are SIPs?
Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are a high performance building system for residential and light commercial construction. The panels consist of an insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings, typically oriented strand board (OSB). SIPs are manufactured under factory controlled conditions and can be fabricated to fit nearly any building design. The result is a building system that is extremely strong, energy efficient and cost effective. Building with SIPs will save you time, money and labour.
Are SIPs More Expensive than wood frame construction?
Building with SIPs generally costs about the same as building with wood frame construction when you factor in the labour savings resulting from shorter construction time and less jobsite waste. Home owner savings are realized because smaller heating and cooling systems are required with SIP construction. Additionally annual energy bills are significantaly reduced when compared to traditional block or timber frame buildings.
How strong are SIPs?
The structural characteristics of SIPs are similar to that of a steel I-beam. The OSB skins act as the flange of the I-beam, while the rigid foam core provides the web. This design gives SIPs an advantage when handling in-plane compressive loads
Where is the SIP manufactured?
The SIP is manufactured at our site in Co.Tipperary, located in the Suir valley at the foot of the Comeragh mountains. All processes are completed in accordance with our Quality Management System (QMS) and in compliance with tier one supplier requirements which affords Sure Finishing the ability to offer our customers an extensive product guarantee.
